Sectional Committee A40 was organized under the procedure of the American Standards,Association in August, 1928, and Subcommittee No. 11 on Solder-Joint Fittings for Tubing was appointed,in October, 1936.,Subcommittee No. 11 held its first meeting in New York on October 29, 1936, at which the various,problems concerning bore diameter and tolerance, length of joint, and seal were considered. During this,discussion the committee was informed of the investigation of solder joints that was being carried on by,the National Bureau of Standards.
